Question to my political economists abt IRAN

How the hell is Iran a third world country, and a member of OPEC, and a "super power"?

CNN reffered to them as a 3rd world country in this articl about the elections lookin bad for the current president.

Because a country can be rich and have a large military and still have third world living conditions for their citizens.

the US perception (or misperception) of the world is that it should be the only superpower. And its media networks feed propoganda that any country which opposes it are the worst bunch and should be treated as pariahs. Americans still think Cuba is a scary place. And Iran and North Korea? damn those people are still barbarians to you guys. My uncle is the Brunei ambassador to Iran, and its a beautiful country and the people are humble.

i never considered Iran a "barbaric place"...
i think alot of countries also mistake america as being filled with arrogant people. We just have a very arrogant govt.
Same way Iran has a very controversial, stand offish govt.
These opinions are formed for a reason, and it's usually because of the perceptions involved from either side of that countries govt.

The Iranians are about to vote Aheminijad out of office tho. Watch.

i mean some of you guys probably still think Ahmadenijad as the guy who wanted israel "wiped off the map", which was a quote taken severely out of context by the western media (he never used the word israel or map, or wipe off in the actual quote. which says a lot about the news the US receives and how it chooses to interpret events).

It's okay to hate the american govt, just don't hate the people. Or, not all the people... some of the people are pretty damned hateable.

Re: Question to my political economists abt IRAN

the speech was for a presidential address for the people and it was held in one of the universities, and they invited the foreign press as well. so naturally he would be talking about Iran's position in world affairs and their stance on things in general. the "wipe out israel" part of the speech was him actually quoting the Ayatollah, which in farsi (persian), basically translated to, "i hope to see the end of the Zionist regime in the lands of jerusalem". or something like that. he was talking about, just like what all other muslims believe, the evil government in power thats occupying palestinan territory. and you can't wipe a government off the face of the planet, but you can hope to see it get replaced. that was it, the quote was a quote from the Ayatollah, which was a view he shared. Not the way CNN reported it, which was that Ahmadinjiad wanted to acquire nukes and destroy the piece of land known as Israel into inexistence.
