the difference in growing hydro and normally is only the difference in quality of high, and yield... ie you get more trichonomes/crystals... (which is the ONLY thing that gives you a buzz)
I've seen people grow better normally than other people in hydro due to experience and a better enviroment.
If i were to show you 100 pictures of weed 50 of them hydroponically grown and 50 grown in soil I bet I could confuse the shit out of you
